AIL Preview: Division 2C Week 18

On the final day of action, Instonians bid to finish with 90 points from a possible 90, Clonmel and Bruff fight for promotion, while four teams are still at risk of being relegated via the play-offs.

Sundays Well V Bangor, Sat 15th April, Musgrave Park, 1pm

With Well already relegated Bangor will be hoping to pick up a huge win in this tie to secure their status in division 2C next season.

As they have a points difference that is not healthy enough, Well are already preparing for life in the junior ranks next year but a win at their home venue this weekend would give them a little bit of a nice swansong to life in this division, as they look to try and get back up into division next season.

Bangor sit in sixth place, they will be hoping not to taste defeat this weekend as that could signal them having to take part in the promotion relegation play-off battle, seeing them slip down the ranks on the final day, but a win would definitely secured their status and keep them alive for next year.

Midleton V Clonmel, Sat 15th April, Towns Park, 2:30pm

Midleton will aim to get out of the bottom two places if they can secure a big win overpromotion chasing Clonmel.

It is win or bust for the Cork side this weekend they need a win to secure their status in the division currently sat in the relegation/ promotion play-off spot they will hope to get the win, we may need to Calculator to see if they have survived for another season, a bonus point win would be massive.

Clonmel meanwhile need to secure a win to remain in contention for promotion, with Bruff just behind they cannot let it slip on the final day, a must win for both but Clonmel will know promotion is a huge prize for them in the long run.

Omagh Academicals V Bruff, Sat 15th April, Thomas Mellon Playing Fields, 2:30pm

A game with importance at either end of the table which will affect sides in trying to get out and stay in the division.

Eight place Omagh are just outside of the bottom two spots, they’ll be hoping that they can end the season with a win and with that put to bed any fears of relegation in the division but will have a stern test as Bruff make the trip up north.

If their Cork neighbours can topple Clonmel and Bruff win the win needed in this trip to Omagh, they will be in fourth place once the season concludes, currently behind by three points, that will be the ideal conclusion as far as the Shannonsiders will be concerned to finish the season.

Skerries V Ballina, Sat 15th April, Holmpatrick, 2:30pm

Skerries are assured of a place in the promotion play-offs but they will look to secure a second spot if they can get the win over Ballina.

The goats have had an impressive season, last year they were unlucky not to get promoted, but with different rules this year, they are in a good spot to right the wrong of last season, if they can get a positive result in this final tie it would leave them second if Tullamore lose.

Ballina on the other hand are still at risk of the drop, four ahead of Midleton, they would need at least a bonus point to guarantee their safety should Midleton win, if their adversaries get a bonus point win, then they need two, but a draw would be enough for them to avoid a 9th place finish. Ballina have picked up five impressive wins in 2023 and will be intent on finishing the season on their own terms.

Tullamore V Instonians, Sat 15th April, Spollanstown, 2:30pm

Instonians will look to end the year with a perfect unbeaten record if they can get a win on the road in Tullamore.

Tullamore will hope that they can secure the win needed to keep on to second spot in the league table, giving them a positive luck going into the promotion play-off race, as the hope that they have done enough to get them over the line into 2B.

The Belfast club have laid waste to the division this season 17 wins in a row with 17 bonus points, they will hope to make it 18 and 18 this weekend if they can keep up their winning mentality as the division champions have been more than impressive.
