AS we draw closer to our centenary we will be developing plans to celebrate 100 years of rugby in Ballina. With that in mind we have started mining the newspaper archives and we aim to regularly bring you snippets from our finds.
Today, we remember a young man who made a name for himself back in 1933.

Mr Brendan Macaulay (UCD), son of Mrs Macaulay, Francis Street, Ballina played with the Combined Universities against an international XV at Lansdowne Road on Wednesday when his side won 9 points to 7.
