Remembering a special man on a special night

Remembering a special man on a special night

Michael Gallagher19 Nov 2024 - 15:48

We're inviting everyone to come and remember a special man

ON Saturday night we will gather to enjoy a very exciting match between our First XV and Creggs in the Connacht Junior League at 7.30pm. It promises to be a thriller, but there is far more to Saturday evening's meeting than a game of rugby.
We will gather together to remember a special man, who gave so much of himself to others. Kieran Cawley brought light and joy to so many lives; he adored his family, loved sport and embraced positivity.
Sadly, Kieran contracted a rare form of cancer and despite a brave and gallant fight, he passed away in 2022.
Kieran's passing left a huge void in the lives of his loved ones and so many people, near and far, who were blessed to have spent time in his company.
He is remembered fondly on the sporting fields. Kieran played, supported and officiated in many sports including rugby, Gaelic football, soccer and anything that came across his path. He is remembered in both Ballina and Creggs as a powerful prop who played with his heart on his sleeve for both clubs during a life filled with memorable moments.

On Saturday night, we look forward to hosting our friends from Creggs in what promises to be a thrilling league match, but more importantly we look forward to both clubs playing for the Kieran Cawley Cup, which has been kindly donated by his wife Marcella and all those associated with Crossmolina Mini Rugby, of which Kieran was so proud and helped set up.
We're inviting everyone to come along and remember a special man on a special night. Events get underway at 6.30pm in the clubhouse and everyone is invited. We will be raising money for Cancer Care West in memory of Kieran and with this in mind there will be a 10 euro admission fee on the gate (which entitles the contributor to a free drink at the bar). There will also be an opportunity to enter a draw for two tickets to Ireland v Australia, very generously donated by Michael Moylett (More details to follow).
It promises to be a wonderful occasion and we would love as many people as possible to come along and be part of it.
